For the PYP Exhibition I chose to explore Art and how to improve at it. At times, I’ve had trouble taking in negative feedback and that’s why I’ve chosen Art as my PYP exhibition.
And also I just want to push myself and really see what I’m capable of producing. The ATL I’m working on is perseverance because when things get hard it’s harder for me to persevere because I lose interest. I lose interest simply because I’m perfectionist. Art really helped me improve perseverance and self belief.
Throughout my journey I had my fair shares of up and downs and sometimes even felt like I want to give up.
When Exhibition started, every week had been packed with work. Since we had to go to online learning it was even harder for me to get feedback and help from a teacher or a mentor. The only time I could get help is when there is a google meet scheduled or through email. Half way through exhibition I felt like I just didn't want to do Art anymore because it was just too hard and stressful, but I reminded myself that everyone is feeling the same so I just have to persevere. By the end of the PYP Exhibition I felt much more confident in my art skills and certainly improved on the ATL I’m working towards.
For my artistic piece I had a canvas and a paintbrush painting the word ‘persevere’ onto the canvas in different colours. Each color represents the emotions that I felt throughout Exhibition, red represents confusion, orange represents being stuck and not really knowing how to get unstuck, purple represents being overwhelmed with work and green represents growth and perseverance. This artistic piece directly links to my exhibition because at first I didn't feel confident with my artistic skills or my ATL. And that is being shown in the first letter which is red representing confusion, the next is stuck and the next is overwhelmed so my artistic piece clearly connects to my exhibition journey.
For my exhibition I decided to do coding and my Goal was to make a fully functional game. When I first started I thought I would be better than I thought. it turns out I was not as good as I thought, but I kept trying at it. Then after I was practicing my teacher told me that I had to start making my game so for my first attempt it didn’t let me type the code because my settings weren't working so I did a second attempt that I am still working on but... that one got deleted on accident now I have to restart.
To link the art with my exhibition I made it so I was making a game that looked like the drawing in my draft, it looked A little unfocused so I traced over it to make it look better. I added myself in the shot because I had to make it look like I was coding it instead of it looking like it was coding by itself. I needed someone To help me take a photo from behind me and the person who helped take the photo was Elmarie. After she took the photo I edited it so it would look better
Hello, my name is Harry and for my exhibition I chose to do cartoon drawing. I decided to do cartoon drawing because I love to read books that have illustrations and I always look at the drawing and wish I could be that good. Illustrations in books inspired me a lot. I also got better at writing, storytelling, tracing and looking at something, someone or a character and then being able to draw it. I had also always wanted to get better at drawing but had never really had the opportunity to do that, exhibition gave me that opportunity.
For my artistic piece I chose to draw a maze. At first when we got asked if we had an idea I didn’t really have one even though I had done my brainstorm. However, another learner mentioned a maze and I thought it was a good idea. The maze represents my exhibition journey because in exhibition I got lost at times and in a maze you also get lost. In mazes you take many different routes but eventually you find your way out. You try to make sure you remember which routes to take next time. In exhibition you take away lots of different things that you hopefully remember forever and help you in the future.
By doing exhibition I have gotten better at lots of things. The main ones are drawing, writing, storytelling and creating. One of the things I was really proud of were my 2 main characters, that I created using inspiration from a variety of others to create my own. However, one of the biggest things I have learned from doing exhibition is that my time-management skills are terrible and I need to sort them out before I go into year 7 or else I’ll be dead meat. In the future if football doesn’t work out for me I hope I can become an illustrator or even an author as well.
For my PYP exhibition I decided to explore cooking because I wanted to challenge myself by doing something that I had never really done before. It has been a hard but amazing experience. There were some ups and downs, but it was fun and I learnt so much. I am now confident as a learner and so much more resilient. I am pleased I chose cooking for my exhibition.
My symbolic piece is one incomplete burger and a complete burger with a rope that gets bigger the further you go. There is a sun that’s actually a clock. What inspired my symbolic piece was me pushing through things I didn’t like doing. But actually I got better at cooking, by learning that I am not always going to succeed.
My symbolic piece has shown my journey throughout hard and stressful times, to happy and joyful times. My symbolic piece also shows how I have gotten better at being more resilient and not wasting time. I can’t wait to cook a lot more food in the future.
