For my PYP Exhibition I chose to learn how to play the guitar. The ATLs I chose to work on were resilience and confidence because I feel like when I get up in front of people to play something I get quite nervous. I chose to play the guitar because I have always wanted to be able to play a song on it and I thought this would be a good way to improve my confidence. This I thought would be really easy. It turns out it was much harder than I thought it would be. Getting the chords to sound nice and not ringy was the most difficult part.
The song I chose to play on my guitar was ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran. I chose this song because Ed Sheeran plays guitar and this song is good for beginners. Although I still had to learn the chords, they were quite easy chords. Initially I had started to play ‘All Of Me’ by John Legend on the guitar, but I found it too tricky. So Mr Fordham and I found ‘Perfect’, by Ed Sheeran.
For my art piece I chose to do my guitar with a lot of different feeling words. This piece is called “Emotion Guitar.” This is because while I was doing my exhibition I felt really annoyed at times and I just wanted to give up. Sometimes I felt really excited and I was ready to keep going and not stop. So while I was doing my exhibition I felt a lot of different emotions. Each colour represented one of these. I have really enjoyed the overall exhibition experience , I have learned a lot of different skills including confidence, playing guitar and also resilience.
For my exhibition I chose cooking. I chose cooking because I like cooking. I can also help my mum cook. It is not easy. When you choose cooking you need to clean. You need to shop for recipes for your cooking. I enjoyed it because I like helping mum.
I cooked a cookie as one of my recipes. My cookie is a bit messy but is still very yummy. This is like my exhibition. It was a bit messy but a lot of fun as well.
I learnt new recipes and how I can cook different things such as cookies and cupcakes. Some skills I learnt were shopping, mixing, and how to watch my time so I do not burn things.
My picture shows the different things I need to do when cooking like shopping for chocolate, butter and sugar. It also shows me getting ready to cook so I am ready and putting it in the oven.
I chose to work on cartoon drawing for my Exhibition. I only know how to draw in one style but enjoy cartoons. I am passionate about cartoons and really love to draw them in my spare time. I find it relaxing and it helps to clear my mind. I wanted my cartoons to match what I see in my mind’s eye.
My journey had its ups and downs. There were times I felt I made progress in my drawing and my motivation was high but then other days I felt stuck in a rut and couldn’t get started. I sometimes finish work late and sometimes I am inconsistent in the quality of work I produce. But in Exhibition I had regular deadlines to meet and regular feedback from my mentors. This helped me to stay on track.
My artistic piece shows how I felt about Exhibition and my journey. Cartoon characters are really good ways to express your emotions in a safe and fun way. When I felt overwhelmed I became nervous. When I met a deadline I felt proud and confident. Sometimes feedback hurt but that is part of the journey.
For my PYP Exhibition I chose time management as my topic. What I did to practice time management was doing a research project every week and figuring out a strategy to complete it on time. I chose time management because that was a very prominent problem that both Mr Zach and my parents had talked to me about many times in the past. Throughout my exhibition I have had ups and downs but at the end I improved on time management and focus.
When I first began my Exhibition journey, I could never get all of my assignments done on time. On good days, I got them done at the last minute and on bad days, I didn’t even finish. I talked to teachers and my parents about where my work was and why I didn’t hand them in a lot. However, I researched strategies like using timers and used them in my exhibition and now I can get a research poster done in half the time.
The main skill I developed during my Exhibition was time management, but I also developed some other skills such as idea-generating. Time management was the main focus of my Exhibition so it was key but all of the skills were very important. For example, idea generation was important because without that skill, I wouldn’t have been able to come up with ideas for my research project.
My artistic piece shows me climbing a mountain and at the top of the mountain is a clock with a target pattern. In the background, there are words that describe my journey, such as time management, focus and tenacity. Climbing the mountain symbolizes me trying to overcome a challenge. The clock represents time management, and the target pattern symbolizes the goal. The words represent what I did to climb my mountain and get closer to achieving my goal.
