For the exhibition I decided to train for a triathlon. This would be a vehicle to guide my progress during the exhibition. Some of the challenges I faced were actually doing exercise because a lot of the time I really didn't want to do it. Another challenge I faced was me and my dad disagreeing and arguing. This was my main challenge because we were both very stubborn and didn't want to back down. Luckily we created a system where if we got too fed up with each other we could just say BREAK and we would have a rest, but most of the time I would just walk away. I also had the problem of not having enough to do at times because I thought I had run out of things to research and just had to exercise.
My artistic piece represents a triathlon because it has a symbol of all 3 sports with arrows going around in circles. The arrows are coloured with red, green, and blue and each of those colours represent something different. Red represents being hot because I often trained in the hottest part of the day, Green represents nature because I was getting out and about a lot more , and Blue represents the lake which is my main track and where I do most of my training . It also has a brain in the middle to represent my mindset while I do my triathlon.
My artistic piece link to my journey because it shows all 3 things that I have gotten better at during the 6 weeks. It also shows that you need to have a growth mindset to continue.A example of this is my first triathlon and most recent triathlon.Basically on my first one I stopped early, and my most recent one I ran all the way to the proper finish and I tried so hard I felt sick. That shows that you need to persevere and the arrows go both ways to show that there is no easier path.
Hi I’m Cameron and I’m going to tell you about my PYP exhibition. My exhibition is about fitness. I chose fitness to improve my speed and core strength. I also chose it because sport is something that I find a challenge and would give up quickly when it became hard. I wanted to be more resilient.
The fitness challenges I chose are running, swimming , sit-ups, push-ups and running up the stairs. It started off good for the running by doing the beep test at school. I was also able to do the sit-ups, push ups and stair climbing easily at school. However I was struggling with getting the swimming done. Then school went to HBL and I had to change things again as I couldn’t do the beep test but I could do the swimming. I have enjoyed the swimming the most and found it much harder to stay focused on the stair climbs, sit ups and push ups, I haven’t been as resilient with these. I had to use my organizational skills to make sure I was on track. To do this I made a timetable for each activity. I needed to record my data from each activity using my dads fitness watch and put this information into a spreadsheet.
My fitness has improved, I can see this in my swimming. I am now managing to do 1000m in 23 mins which is an improvement of 2 mins from when I began training just a couple of weeks ago.
For my exhibition I have picked 2 ATL’s which are time management and organisation. I have picked these 2 ATL’s because they are ones that I think I need to work on the most because I will get off track and then not know what to do or just ponder in my boughs for a while and then get nothing done. For my exhibition vehicle I have picked to be an exhibition coach where I help people with their exhibition while I grow too. This vehicle has helped me to improve on other things such as listening, collaborating, giving productive feedback/advice, making charts and note taking. This has helped me stay organized and manage my time.
For my final attempt I have done a staircase with me at the bottom stepping my way to the top. In the rails of my staircase I have a checklist, personally I have used checklists a lot this year so I can stay organised. I have my clock, to represent time management because that’s an ATL I’m focusing on. I have research, to symbolise all the research I’ve been doing to help guide my way through my exhibition. Then I have speech bubbles. After I’ve done my research I have to ask the people I’m helping, questions to help understand what is going on and how to help them. I then have the flag, the flag represents my goals to get up there. Lastly I have the colors which are on the staircase steps. The colors are my main feelings throughout my exhibition journey.
My story relates to my image because of the pride I put into my work and art. I have also used the staircase to represent my challenges and feelings throughout the exhibition. The colors, red-angry, green-confused, purple-stressed, pink-happy, light purple-proud. I have put my feelings in order to show the passage of feelings I felt..
