I picked cooking because it is a life skill I need to learn and it would help my organisation, presentation and time management. What inspired me was My Dad’s cooking. At the start sI found that my organisation, presentation and management wasn’t good. After the weeks the ATLs I wanted to improve on, I improved on It a lot.
So far over the past few weeks of exhibition I have improved on my ATLs and I have learnt how to cook. The most challenging dish was making homemade ricotta pasta. That was a challenge because I had to make the pasta, make the ricotta and the pasta dough. If I made 1 mistake in the dough or ceiling the pasta it wouldn't work.
My symbolic piece is a picture of a messy place to show that I’m not organised. Then the next photo is a picture of me organised well and I put those two pictures side by side to show my improvement.
What Exhibition means to me. The Exhibition proved to me was that I can do things I never thought I could do. Exhibition also thought me to follow instructions clearly, There was a time when I was making white chocolate Lava cake I put a whole stick of butter when I was meant to put half a stick. Imagine how that tasted!
For my pyp exhibition I did cooking. I did cooking because I needed to improve on three atl’s. The first one was Time Management because I'm not really that good at time management. Sometimes I can just mess around and not do work and get distracted. My second atl was Goal Setting because sometimes I wouldn't really know where to start off so I would just be confused with what to do first then what to do after. If I was better at goal setting, I could make goals on what to do first and when I could finish it. My last atl was Organisation and I chose that because I'm not very organised in work or other things. Sometimes I'm not that organised when it comes to work. I would be missing stuff or when I’m cooking I might sometimes forget to bring a certain ingredient. I think cooking helped me with Time Management because I needed to manage my time otherwise my food might burn or I would run out of time to cook. It helped me with goal setting because I would have to set goals on when I have to do what in cooking, for example when I have to cut something or when I have to take something out from the oven.
The photo I used is inspired by my journey throughout the exhibition. For my cooking exhibition that would be the cooking, cleaning dishes, trying out stuff and getting feedback from people. The green is showing the good things that I got from cooking and the red shows the bad stuff.
My artistic piece is about how in some areas I did improve but in some I didn’t improve or didn’t improve that much. An example could be how I didn’t really improve in Time Management but in organization I did improve. I also didn’t improve that much on goal setting as much as I improved on my cooking skills. In the future, exhibition can help me because I will always need to be alert and manage my time, I will have to be organised and not messy and I will have to set goals and always know what to do.
For my Exhibition, I did public speaking. I chose this because I am not good at it. Previously, I got really nervous when doing it. Some of the challenges I faced was getting my presentation completed on time. Another challenge I faced was learning my lines for the plays we put on. Another challenge I faced was avoiding fidgeting with my hands. I wanted to appear confident!
A success I had was my presentations were well received. I know this because I received very positive reviews from my peers. My peers had to rate my performance on a rubric. By the end of Exhibition I reached my goal of becoming confident at presenting! This will help me next year because I won't stutter and I will be able to speak loudly.
For my artistic piece, I showed the emotions you can feel whilst presenting and how they look. I got more confident along the rainbow. For example, red means very nervous and not confident, where as blue means very confident and excited to present!
For my exhibition,I decided to work on my self control. My goal was to find a way to stay calm in an annoying situation. A challenge I faced was arranging groups to play my games. I had to work out how many people I needed, then ask people if they were free. I also had to think about the covid restrictions. I solved this by choosing games you can play with 2 or 3 people. Another thing I found challenging was finding methods to stay calm. The reason I found it hard was because a lot of the strategies were for anger and anxiety. In the end, I kept researching and found 3 strategies I can use that work for me. The strategies were breathing, visualisation and relaxing my body.During the exhibition I learnt how to annotate a website. When you annotate something, you highlight key words and make notes on a photo of the website. I then used my new skills to learn methods to help me stay calm. One of my favourite methods is visualisation. Visualisation is basically where you visualise yourself being calm and relaxed.
My inspiration for my artistic piece came from the fact that lots of my favourite games can be played using a deck of cards. To me the deck of cards also symbolises my improvement. That's because the lowest card is a 2, which is where I started and the highest card is an ace which is where I am now. To me the cards represent my vehicle, game design. The cards that are laid out are higher cards because the higher cards symbolise where I am now. The words in red represent things I used to do when I got annoyed. They're in red because they are bad things that I shouldn't do. The words in green symbolise what I do now. They are all good things to help me calm down.
My journey and my artistic piece are connected because I am sitting on playing cards. Choosing game design meant that I had multiple times to interact with others. It also meant I could improve how I manage my emotions. I chose red and green because red symbolizes where I was and green symbolizes where I am now.
